Baby & toddler sensory classes on the Isle of Wight

Welcome!

Screenshot 2024-02-28 at 20.57.28.png

As a mum of two small children, I know how difficult it is to keep them entertained. I have been to my fair share of baby classes and stay and play sessions. Bonny Babies was born from a desire to enrich little people’s lives through sensory play – one of the most powerful tools we can use with our children.

With a background in theatre and Primary Education, I have drawn on my skills and experience to create a brand new programme of classes for babies and toddlers here on the Isle of Wight.

At a Bonny Babies class, your child will be treated to a sensory experience that will capture their imagination, whether they are 8 weeks or 3 years old.

But Bonny Babies isn’t just designed for children. I know how nerve-wracking groups can be to a parent or carer too. As a stay at home mum, I know how lonely raising children can be. I aim to create a safe, friendly and welcoming space where adults also have the opportunity to make friends.

You are warmly invited to join us for messy play specials (ages 6 months to 3 years). Watch this space for more opportunities to play coming soon! I can’t wait to meet you!

About Me

I’m Harriet and I’m the founder of Bonny Babies.

I’m an experienced educator having taught for nine years in the Primary sector, both in the classroom and through one to one tuition. I’m currently a stay at home mum of two beautiful children – Jasper and Arlia.

Ever since Jasper was born, I’ve had a desire to connect with and support other families from birth and beyond. Now Arlia is here, the time is finally right for me to start my journey, starting with sensory play and moving into baby massage when I’ve finished my qualification.

I have personal insight into the benefits of sensory play and baby massage from my experiences with my own children and I hope to be able to share this knowledge with you.

I understand the importance of having holistic and supportive opportunities for families and babies to thrive, grow, bond, play and feel nurtured. I hope that through Bonny Babies, you find ways to connect with your children and other likeminded parents.

Messy Play Specials

Website messy play.png

These are currently run by myself and my husband, Tom. Our monthly Messy Play Specials are currently held at Gunville Methodist Church and West Wight Nursery.

These are very popular. We create small worlds on trays using taste-safe materials. There is always a mixture of wet and dry materials, as well as a sensory tray for the younger participants or those older children who just want some time away from the mess!

Our aim is to create a welcoming and relaxed environment for children and adults. We calm the children down at the end using bubbles and are always happy to help you get your child cleaned up!

"If you’re like me and hate messy play but your child loves it then this is the group for you! My son is 2 and had the best time playing in the paints, painting his hands and feet and all I had to do was wash the dirty clothes after! He loved the range of trays available and the bubble machine at the end was a big hit! Harriet is really welcoming and this was one of the friendliest groups we’ve been to! We will definitely be back!"

Story & Play Specials

These are currently run by myself and my husband, Tom. Our monthly Story & Play Specials are currently being held at The Phoenix Cafe, Gurnard Pines.

Each month, we will choose a book and set up a variety of activities based on the story for the children to explore. At the end of the session, we'll bring out bubbles and all sit together to read the story.

So far, these are proving to be very popular classes. Our first, The Gruffalo, was a sell-out!

Frequently Asked Questions...

What are the benefits of messy play?

Where do I begin?! Messy play is more than just getting messy. It is a type of sensory play which encourages your child’s curiosity and imagination. It allows them to explore and build on physical skills such as scooping and pouring. It develops hand-eye coordination and allows your child to explore materials, shapes, colours and textures. It helps your child learn to express themselves creatively, encouraging communication and language development. It builds their confidence and independence. But most importantly? It’s FUN!

What exactly IS sensory play? And why is it important?

Simply put, sensory play is an activity that stimulates our senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. Sensory play encourages learning through exploration, curiosity, problem solving and creativity. It encourages the development of language and motor skills. It helps children interact with and make sense of the world that surrounds them.

What should I/my child wear to a messy play session?

Comfy clothes you don’t mind getting mucky. Please do keep your child clothed though. A bodysuit/vest is fine.

What should we bring for a messy play session?

A change of clothes for your child, lots of wet wipes, a towel, spare socks for yourself just in case you stand in something gooey!

What can I expect from a class with Bonny Babies?

Every class promises a sensory experience like no other. Each session will bring a theme with it and we’ll have sensory activities based around that theme. Sometimes we’ll get messy, sometimes we’ll sing and dance, but I promise that most of all, we’ll always have fun.

I’ve booked. I’m excited! Who is the ticket valid for?

Each booking is valid for one child and up to two adults. If you have more than one child, please make two bookings.

Can I book Bonny Babies for my child’s birthday party?

This is certainly something I’d love to help you with! I’ve got two small children so availability is tight, but please do get in touch to see what I can offer. If we can't make it work, my trays are also for hire and I can give you set up advice.
